The Setting

Within the 1190 islands that make up the Maldives, you’ll find a diamond amongst gems in Joali Maldives on Muravandhoo Island. Just a seaplane hop or speed boat cruise takes you to the Raa Atoll, home to the island bustling with coconut trees, pristine white sands and blue waters teeming with vibrant sea life (they even have their own marine biologist on staff). The most attractive feature about this family-friendly recipient of a 2020 Conde’ Nast Readers' Choice Award, is the care they take for its fragile ecosystem. The resort was built around existing island trees and they’ve implemented the Joali Reef Restoration Programme, helping to rehabilitate much of the 85 percent of the Maldives’ coral reef lost during the devastating bleaching event of 2016.

In addition to Joali's heart for conservation, creativity is inspired throughout as the first and only art-immersive hotel in the Maldives. In addition to the Art Studio & Gallery, the entire island is filled with interactive and experiential art pieces. Some of the work is commissioned in collaboration with local artists and artisans to give you an enrichment of local cultures while you support their work and communities. So, grab a cocktail, an art map, and set out to nourish your creative side.

Sleep and Sanctuary

The 73 immaculately appointed Stay Well villas and residences at Joali will leave you breathless and sun soaked. The villas are constructed from sustainable and eco-friendly materials and you’ll choose from the ubiquitous over-water variety or beach villas and family residences. In each, you’ll be pampered with your own infinity pool, butler and valet service, eco-friendly bath amenities, in-room yoga mats, locally made furnishings and curated private libraries. Not to mention, views of turquoise blue waters by day and billions of stars by night.

Eat. Pray. Eat.

When your belly rumbles, we recommend throwing on your flashiest kaftan and sandals and heading towards Joali’s four distincts dining concepts. The uber attractive Mura Bar can act as your hub for exquisite pre-dinner drinks and flatbreads before a starry night stroll to Vandhoo, an open-air space specializing in Mediterranean, South East Asian, and Levant cuisines. If you're in aperitif mode, Bellinis will be your stop, boasting fine Italian dining and “nonni approved” raviolis. Some special outposts that will take your dining at Joali to new heights are Saoke, a breathtaking over-water Japanese restaurant helmed by Two Michelin Star chef, Takagi Kazuo and Her Kitchen, an immersive dining experience where you can cook local recipes with experienced chefs. We didn’t forget about the kiddos (big and little), who will clean every plate for a visit to LaJoie, the artisanal chocolate and ice cream shop. Keeping it intimate or private? Then Destination Dining on the property is at your whim wherever you fancy.

Vandhoo - Choose from a lavish range of hand-picked wines from across the globe to pair with art immersive experiential dining. Influences range from South East Asian, Chinese, Levant and Mediterranean cuisine with other delightful offerings including unparalleled breakfast spreads.

Saoke - Incredible views and design from world-renowned architect, Noriyoshi Muramatsu make this gorgeous Japanese resto a brunch haven. Add chef Takagi Kazuo’s Michelin Star pedigree to the menu and elevate your tastes with sakes, sushi, and teppanyaki/Katatsu seating options for the iron-grill enthusiasts.

Bellinis - This pearl of the Mediterranean offers your Italian favorites in a fine dining setting. Start at the bar with a namesake bellini and prepare to whisked away to nonni’s Tuscan villa.

Her Kitchen - Fulfill your Top Chef fantasies and become a master of local dishes in this gorgeous open-air kitchen alongside experienced chefs. It’s an experience you won’t soon forget.

Mura Bar - Imbibe and dine on street food and sumptuous snacks at this social hub overlooking the pearly beach and pool. Enjoy spectacular sunsets (every night) and live music (some nights).  Also, find a tucked away fine whiskey and cigar bar for your bespoke pleasures.

The Art of De-stressing

The eight treatment rooms at Joali Spa by ESPA (ahem, winner of Tatler Award for Best Spa in the World) offer breathtaking seaside and garden vistas while you revitalize mind, body & spirit in the ultimate Indian Ocean paradise. Indulge in tailor-made treatments from the globally known Espa Spa like the Ocean Glow, an exfoliating treatment with sea salts and essential oils to help keep you refreshed out there in the sun.

Your wellness and fitness is just as much a priority as your comfort at Joali, find an indoor fitness center with miraculous views overlooking the crystal blue ocean and (yoga, pilates, barre) trainers to assist in that sculpt. You’re jetting off to the middle of the Indian Ocean, so of course, don’t forget to pack that tennis racquet (we’re not joking). Expect well-lit courts on the island hosting relaxing and challenging matches and pros eager to help raise any game to that next level of play.

Naturally, you’ll be spending ample time on the private beach or in the surrounding turquoise waters. You’ll find water sports and activities galore for both on the surface and well below it.
